Lavendar_Bluez’s Top 10 List of Holiday Series Part 1
(in no particular order)
A Kindred Spirit
A heart warming but long series about all the family issues possible and a wide range of relationships and chemistry! The BBQ Pork family is lead by Auntie Sin (Louise Lee) and her husband Cha Siu Bing (Lau Dan). As the story progresses, we then introduce their troublesome but kind hearted children, Sin’s mean but loving parents, hard working maid, siblings played by Nancy Sit and Angie Chiu, daughter in-laws, son in-laws, nieces, nephews … oh and lets not forget their upper class in-laws and before you know it the cast is so huge! Yet we tend to remember every single one of them because everyone of the cast has an important role and has their own part in the series! Besides the fact that you get to see as many actors and actresses as you want, it also has a wide range of stories people can relate to that ties in really well with the cast. The series presents a variety of possible relationships and presents the horrible factors that affect people such as greed, being poor, bad past or even unable to stand the annoying and overly protective mother in-laws! We share the laughter, the tears and annoyance, the series make us feel like we’re part of the family. The joy and familial feelings its gives off is perfect for the holiday break even if you just see a few episodes.
Return of the Cuckoo
This series, I find can be a bit draggy but it’s still nice. A series, with Chilam Cheung, Charmaine Sheh, Steven Ma, Nancy Sit, Michale Tong and many others. The series is sort of what I call tragic yet mixed with some humour. The humour is the relationship between Chilam and Charmaine. The story goes that Chilam and Charmaine were raised by Nancy who in the past was a famous singer for dance clubs. Charmaine is the lively daughter that is loved by her friends and relatives of Nancy and a rich man whom she later finds out is the uncle of Steven. Chilam is the good looking, friendly but mute boy raised by Nancy after his mother fed him a toxic liquid but was luckily saved by Nancy. Both of them grew up together and although it would have made sense for them to be brothers and sisters they fell in love with each other. The thing is that both of them wont take the first step leading to Charmaine and Steven starting a relationship. At times the series I find is a bit annoying because I find Chilam and Nancy to be loving Charmaine too much. They made so many sacrifices yet Charmaine didn’t see it and in fact left her mother to live with her father and Steven.
Some Highlights of this series:
- Chilam asking Nancy if she didn’t want him anymore because she wanted a better future for Charmaine and decided to send Chilam away
- When Charmaine’s step mom reveals Nancy truth as to wanting what’s best for Charmaine on the phone
Personally, I only liked Chilam and Nancy in this series because I was really upset that Charmaine’s character was oblivious to the things people were doing for her. Overall though, the series is worth watching over the holidays because it has such a great plot, and although other relationships in this series are great but they cant compare to Chilam & Charmaine’s chemistry! It’s just so funny and cute!
